Notion and types of actors involved in investment activities

Abstract

This article studies the notion of an “actor involved in investment activities”, reveals and describes the features of the actors involved in investment activities, the interrelation and distinction between the notion of an “actor involved in investment activities” and related notions. The article also provides different classifications of the actors involved in investment activities based on both legal and doctrinal criteria. Moreover, the article examines, from the economic point of view, such notions as “investments”, “investment activity”, describes peculiarities and specific features of these phenomena which enable to distinguish them from similar ones, and includes the author’s definitions. So, the author defi nes investments as a capital which has a designated use (getting of certain benefits) and investment activity as a process of allocating the capital which has a designated use. The article also deals with the issues concerning peculiarities of a legal status of certain types of actors involved in investment activities. In particular, the author analyses the notion “investor” which is traditionally a central notion within other actors involved in investment activities. As a rule, this notion covers the persons investing their own, borrowed or raised funds and ensuring their designated use. The article reveals the characteristics of an investor, as well as its main rights and duties.
