Some areas of activities of trade unions in ensuring employment in Belarus

More than 90 % of the economically active population of the Republic of Belarus are members of a trade union. This fact confirms that trade unions have the opportunity to exert an effective influence on labor relations. The article examines the activities of trade unions to ensure employment of the population of Belarus. In particular, trade unions participate in the development and implementation of social and economic policy of the state, they are involved in the legislative process. The provision of employment, of course, is influenced by the inspections and monitoring conducted by trade unions, consultations of citizens, including on issues of self-employment. The possibilities of trade unions to raise the level of employment by means of collective agreements are considered. In these sources of labor law it is possible to provide additional guarantees for certain categories of workers who cannot compete on an equal footing in the labor market; the duty of the employer to coordinate with the trade unions the establishment of part-time work; grounds for dismissal, the application of which requires notification or consent of the trade union, and the like. The role of trade unions in securing the legal rights of employees engaged in precarious work is examined. The activity of the trade union on the coordination of the employee dismissal and the verification of the legality of the procedure for the termination of the employment contract has been studied in sufficient detail.
