Editorial Policy of the Journal

Mission and uniqueness

The mission of the "Vestnik of St. Petersburg University. Law" is to promote legal doctrine and legal tradition, scientific theories, and practical projects, to introduce them into scientific circulation.

The uniqueness of an international edition (as opposed to other publications of this kind) is determined by a combination of the following factors:
- expression of views of representatives of the world's leading scientific legal schools and centers for the study of law;
- the role of a platform for scientific dialogue and scientific discussions on an international scale;
reflection of research results, including using empirical methods of social and humanitarian sciences, as well as in comparative legal and interdisciplinary approaches (at the interface with other social sciences - sociology, history, psychology, philology, political science, oriental studies, and others);
- carrying out the policy of a bilingual journal (publication of articles and other materials, both in Russian and in English).

The journal does not accept the following materials:
- scientific articles on the theory and history of law and state (with the exception of articles written using empirical methods of social and humanitarian sciences);
- abstracts (abstract reviews);
- reviews of scientific events, including outlining the content of speeches and discussions;
- reviews of scientific publications;
- personalities (commemorative notes, obituaries, etc.).

Priority goal

Publication of the results of scientific research and projects of international importance and reflecting:
current state and prospects for the development of law, legal science, and practice; problems hindering the development of the legal system; specific ways and means of solving (overcoming) these problems.

Main goals

Presentation of the results of theoretical and applied research and legal practice, including research using empirical methods of social sciences and humanities, as well as interdisciplinary and comparative legal research.
Coverage of the history of development and the current state of legal science and legal education.
An acquaintance of readers with the main institutions of Russian, foreign and international law and legal practice, as well as with the main achievements of legal scholars.

Basic principles

1. The editorial board’s personal responsibility for achieving the journal’s goals and objectives.

2. High demands on the authorship, relevance, originality, theoretical and/or practical significance, quality, and reliability of publications.

3. The editorial boards’ and reviewers’ conscientiousness and responsibility for compliance with the ethics rules of publishing, reviewing, and editing publications.

4. Authors’ conscientiousness and responsibility for compliance with the rules of the preparation of manuscripts and publication ethics.

5. Young researchers’, including post-graduate and doctoral students’ publication activity support.

 


Legal framework

1. Universal Copyright Convention of 1952 (as amended at Paris on 24 July 1971).

2. Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works of 1886 (as amended at Paris on September 28, 1979).

3. Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (signed at Stockholm on July 14, 1967 and as amended on September 28, 1979).

4. WIPO Copyright Treaty (adopted in Geneva on December 20, 1996) and Agreed Statements Concerning the WIPO Copyright Treaty.

5. Russian copyright legislation (Ch. 69, 70 of the Civil Code, Art. 145, 146 of the Criminal Code, Art. 7.12 of the Administrative Code).

The Chief Editor may reject the submitted manuscript if it is inconsistent with the editorial policy of the journal. In its policy, the Editorial Board follows the recommendations provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Peer Review Guidelines.
