The background and emergence in the early eighteenth century at St. Petersburg Academic University of teaching and study of international law in Russia (part one)
Abstract
The author of the article refutes a well-established contention that international law began to be taught in Russia only in 1930s. He analyses the objective necessity, defining characteristics and problems that accompanied the emergence of teaching of jus gentium at St. Petersburg Academic University in the early 18th century as first experience of such a kind in Russia. He further examines the human, educational, organizational and legal framework and problems of teaching of international law at the University in the early years of its existence. Refs 12.
